City of Airdrie

Airdrie obtained city status in 1985 and is approximately 10 to 15 minutes north of Calgary spanning the Queen Elizabeth II Highway (QE II also known as Highway 2). It has a population approaching 35,000 people and like many other towns and cities in Alberta is growing very quickly due to the booming economy and job market.

Although many of the population work in Calgary, there is plenty of work in Airdrie itself including retail, construction, light manufacturing and the service industries.

Airdrie has a range of residential communities to suit the needs and taste of most people, from mature communities like the ones just off Main Street to new communities like Luxstone, Sagewood, The Canals, Coopers Crossing etc. on the outskirts.  Most of the commercial/industrial parts of Airdrie are confined to the NE section of the city with the residential areas being in the SE and to the west of the QE II.  With many different styles of homes there is something for every budget and every desire.

Airdrie has a good range of shops, both in downtown and on the outskirts of the city.  It also has lots of parks and recreation facilities for both young and old.  Coming shortly will be a major development of shopping and recreational facilities at Balzac which is between Airdrie and Calgary.

Airdrie is one of the few communities outside of Calgary that has its own public transport system for getting from one place to another within Airdrie.  There are many community events during the year including the Airdrie Rodeo in the summer and the Festival of Lights in the winter.

Make sure you view the city of Airdries own video called "Airdrie LIFE" by clicking on the City of Airdrie link above.  Once on their site go to 'Visiting' and then click on 'Airdrie LIFE video'.

Why not move to Airdrie and make Airdrie part of your life?
